Charity Shop
Reclaimed wood & refurbished furniture
Thank you for taking interest in our endeavour to make the world a friendlier place! We believe that prejudice and discrimination should be tackled through actions, not words, and therefore, we have launched an initiative to support everyone affected by discrimination or hardship.
Our Charity shop is a non-for profit endeavour, therefore – we try to make it our best effort to maximize the social outcome of the initiative. Organized as a co-operative, our spending policy is quite simple. Beneficiaries first. Workshop improvements and overheads – second. If anything is left – we pass it over towards Like U’s statutory goals, which are tackling discrimination and supporting the wellbeing of migrants.
Welcome to Like U Charity shop
For a long time, Like U has been a group of volunteers focused on supporting the migrant community on the frontline. Poverty, unemployment, housing issues – we know it all too well, as we always want to shield people from these misfortunes. Amongst many other things, we’ve found that one of the best ways to help someone stand back on their feet is a possibility of not only creating something they can be proud of, but to treat it as work, and get paid for it.
That’s how we came up with an idea of organising a Charitable, free of charge workshop, where our beneficiaries are creating all sorts of marvels, using reclaimed wood and other reusable components – plastics, pieces of metal, anything that comes into our Charity gets looked at dozens of times before we send it to landfill, making sure to bring it to second life whenever possible – not only turning reusable resources into functional wonders, but also doing our part to help the planet. We are also proud of giving a lot of old, used furniture a loving touch – please take a look at the pictures to see how much of a difference some creativity can make!

How it works
It is also our policy to treat everyone taking part in the project with respect, following the basic assumption to acknowledge everyone’s right to dignity every human being has. Which is why, whenever you buy anything from our Charity shop, be advised that at least 80% of the costs goes to beneficiaries, working on a national living wage of £9.50/hour. A simple, sturdy chest that will look great in your garage, therefore, translates into warm meals for someone for a week. A refurbished wardrobe, looking even better than what you can get on the market – is someone’s paid rent, making a difference between staying homeless and enjoying a simple comfort of sleeping in your own bed, with the simple pride of being able to pay for it yourself.
Why are we doing this?
We can all agree that there is a lot of injustice happening in today’s world – Humankind was able to put a man on the moon, yet still struggles with the idea of providing basic safety to its own individuals. We are trying to provide a different solution, and we can provide numerous proofs its working as intended. At Like U, we have programmes where you can get food, shelter and financial support for free and free of charge – but it’s our workshop, where you can actually WORK for your own benefit, that attracts the most beneficiaries to it. This has made us realize, that requesting charitable help is always a trade-off – yes, you are getting the support you need, but at a cost of your mental health and self-respect. We, of course, do not treat it that way – but we are very happy to assist everyone in the manner most comfortable to them. We also think it is more accepted socially to help people help themselves, and there is nothing wrong in saying “I’ll gladly buy from someone who is doing their best effort to get their life together”. Should you want to help us in that mission, please take a look at our shop – or let us know if there is something we can (quite literally) do for you!
Our Products
On a final note, we would like to state that we are not a mass producer – all of our products are handmade, unique designs, manufactured using reclaimed wood, refurbished furniture and other refurbished materials. Therefore, you can rest assured – nothing leaving our workshop will ever be the same, and, as we’re not in a hurry, you have the right to expect top quality – coming from a fact that before we proceed with our work, thought, love and hope are the initial parts of the process.
Please take a look at our shop, and hopefully you will find something you like. If not, don’t be discouraged – we can always build something you need! If you’re looking for something specific, please do not hesitate to contact us at Workshop@likeu.org.uk and we will get in touch.
